Montreal, July 16, (Online Desk): In Canada this year, more than 10 million hectares of land have been burned by fires. This was known on Saturday from official information.
This is a record-breaking event that has surpassed even the pessimistic predictions of scientists.
The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC) said the previous year in 1989, fires burned 7.3 million hectares. The area that has been burnt by fires in six and a half months this year is equal to Portugal or Iceland.
More than 150,000 people have been displaced and one firefighter has died in the wildfires that started in Canada in January.
